Beautiful Ugly Truth
Hi everyone! Welcome to Beautiful Ugly Truth. Thank you for taking the time to visit my site.
My name is Becky, I’m a graduate from the University of Bath, athlete, and mental health speaker.
I launched Beautiful Ugly Truth in January 2019 as a means to inspire the next generation, normalise the conversation of mental (ill) health, and educate people on the topic.
I deliver various presentations and workshops to secondary schools, universities, and sports clubs on a variety of topics relating to mental (ill) health, aspirations, and setbacks.
My passion developed following lived experience of mental illness. It has led me to researching mental health at the University of Bath and working directly with young people and those involved in their lives.
My aim is to use what I have learnt from lived experience, research, and direct work with young people to bridge the gaps between professional understanding and the experience of young people.
What I Do
After years of going in and out of mental health crisis, I began thinking about what I could do to limit the suffering of others.
I decided to use my own lived experience, as well as research in the field, to educate and inspire the young generation and those involved in their lives. It is vital to develop understanding of mental (ill) health across society to improve the quality of life for everyone.
I utilise lived experience with mental illness and research to deliver workshops, presentations, and speeches to secondary schools, colleges, universities, and sports clubs, on a variety of mental health topics.
I see great beauty in talking openly about the ugly truth of mental illness, and hope that in doing so others can feel less alone and encouraged to help seek.
